Hummer’s H3 Alpha is the new trim level that makes its debut for 2008. It is packaged with a robust V-8 engine that matches its macho image, and has the luxurious interiors with chrome accents of the H3X. The Alpha’s throttle response is better than that of the base H3 and H3X. Unique features include a heavy-duty front differential and beefier springs.

The Alpha is powered by a 5.3-liter V-8 engine that produces 300 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. The engine is teamed to a four-speed automatic transmission. Standard on the Alpha is a full-time four-wheel drive. It has a towing capacity of up to 6,000 pounds, while fuel economy is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway. According to Hummer, it speeds up from zero to 60 mph in 8.0 seconds.

The H3 Alpha is equipped with all the features necessary for a smooth, serene and comfortable ride. It gets the luxury interiors of the H3X, including a massive body-colored chrome grille; spare-tire cover; leather seating; bright roof-rack cross members; and a seven-speaker Monsoon sound system. The cargo capacity is 55.7 cubic feet when the seats are folded. It has 16-inch chrome wheels; tough-looking air boxes mounted on the hood; and large 33-inch-high tires. The off-road suspension package includes specially tuned shocks, a full locking rear differential, and a 4:1 two-speed transfer case.

The lineup of standard safety features includes stability control, traction control, anti-lock disc brakes, OnStar communications system, and four air bags including front and rear head protection, curtain and full-length side-curtain air bags.
